Thomas Richard survived until 1927, although the brewery was taken over in the early 1900's by his son, Nicholas Joseph who died in 1952 at the age of 86. The brewery had been run for some time by his son, Thomas Anthony (Tommy). After the Second World War, Tommy's brother, Nicholas James (Jimmy), returned from London with his wife, Margaret and two daughters, Virginia and Bridget, to take up the position of sales manager. The brewery was sold to the Ulster Brewing Company in 1950, most probably because there was no heir, for, at forty, and sixteen years after the birth her second daughter, Margaret was unlikely to have more children.
The following year, I, Nicholas Philip Caffrey, was born to these unemployed, but well-off parents. |
